Remains eligible. Classic FICO can continue to be used for eligible conventional mortgage loans.
Mega Capital Funding is now accepting VantageScore 4.0 for eligible AGN loans, giving mortgage brokers another option when evaluating conventional mortgage scenarios. Explore the benefits, understand the updated agency requirements, and learn how to request VantageScore credit scores for your next eligible loan.
VantageScore is a credit scoring model developed by VantageScore Solutions, a company founded by Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Like FICO, it evaluates credit information to help lenders assess credit risk.
VantageScore 4.0 uses a modern scoring approach that can incorporate trended credit data and certain reported rental payment information, when available. The model provides another way to assess eligible borrowers and may support additional mortgage financing opportunities.
Why it matters for brokers: A borrower’s VantageScore 4.0 can differ from their Classic FICO score. For qualifying AGN loans, the flexibility to evaluate either eligible model may help identify a more suitable credit-scoring path.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) expanded the acceptable credit scoring models for conventional mortgage lending. On September 9, 2026, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac expanded VantageScore 4.0 availability to all of their approved lenders.
Remains eligible. Classic FICO can continue to be used for eligible conventional mortgage loans.
Now available. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac accept VantageScore 4.0 for eligible loans under their applicable requirements.
For eligible Mega AGN scenarios, brokers may compare both models and request the model with the more favorable qualifying middle score, where applicable. One scoring model must be used for all borrowers on the same loan. Mega’s AGN workflow and agency requirements apply.
As announced September 30, 2026, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac aligned their upfront-fee pricing approaches across Classic FICO and VantageScore 4.0. Actual loan pricing still depends on the loan and applicable guidelines.
